People aged 55 and over now make up at least 51% of voters in 331 (of 650) constituencies, once turnout rates by age are accounted for.
This research compiled, by the Centre for Policy Studies and referenced in The Sunday Times, goes some way to explain these new Conservative Party attack ads which seek to undermine Labour’s commitment to the royal family.
According to the British Social Attitudes survey, only 14% of those under 35 years old say it is “very important” for Britain to have a monarchy, compared to 44% of those aged 55 and over.
The audience that the ads are reaching confirm that this is part of the Conservative Party’s focus on older voters.
